daddy said...

by Charlie Morgan

...my daddy said, "wake up, charles
there's a blind man outside that'd
pay fifty dollars to see you."

stunned, i falter in my own shock,
"...fifty dollars?, a blind man, just to see me?"

"yeah, you better get up
before he leaves."

and he was always gone
by the time i got out there.

i saw him the other day,
he didn't see me.

told him who i was and asked
if he'd give fifty dollars to see me?

and it must have been the same guy
because he bellowed, "hell yeah!"

he's gotten richer 'cause he said
he'd give a million dollars...

and all,
just to see me. wow!

imagine my importance,
i know i do.

This is brilliant and it is sooooooo Charlie. Man I sure do miss you. But thank God you show up here occasionally because you touched so many people. You've given me an idea for my website - to post occasional poems by friends - even though the site is for my poems. You, for instance, influenced me so much it is not as if you do not "appear" in my poems, my friend. I am blessed by your gift.
