Kansas by Glenn Curriermy thoughts of Toto seem prosaic
as I pass the bottom hem
of that long plain gown
to enter her environs
reaching the slow green waves
of her bodice
a lone little church
stands below a proud steeple
KansasÂ’ quiet beauty
is refreshingly humble
to this creature of the city
and its proud protestations 07/09/2005 Author's Note: Written upon encountering Kansas for the first time.

Posted by Michelle Angelini on 07/14/05 at 11:27 PM Glenn, I drove through Kansas many years ago, and was surprised by the difference in flora from one end of the state to the next. She is a beautiful lady when peaceful, and her people are warm & friendly. The "slow green waves" are her wheatfields, which have a humbling, calming effect on a traveler through the state.
