I Never Fix The Broken Things

by Amy Wustrin

I never fix the broken things
Just lay them aside
And get by without them

So my camera broke
Halfway through the fall semester
And instead of taking it
In for repairs
I dropped out of college
And called it a day

Not unlike when my heart broke
On my last day of high school
Instead of picking up the peices
And gearing up for round two
Against some other opponent
I forfeited the match
And renounced the sport completely

I pick them both up
From time to time
Turning them over in my hands
As if the heat and motion would somehow revive
The busted shutter
Or the silenced beating

But I havent really tried
To use either of them since

A piece I can really relate to. Things that are broken RARELY get fixed- especially a broken heart ( I should know!) Great read- excellent job
