remnants

by Shonda Chrissonberry

I still use the same green and black
washclothes we picked out together
(with a purple one thrown in for
good measure, because purple is
my favorite color)

and those dishes in my cupboard
are the ones given to us on our
wedding day

I can't remember what I did with my
dress ~ I am sure I must have thrown
it away (just like you did me)

I sold our rings on ebay for $70
and I donated our family Bible to
a local church (I wonder if they
ever found a way to remove our names
from the cover)

It's been years since I have thought
about you {us} ~ but tonight as I
was folding laundry ~ I realized

I still use the same green and black
washclothes we picked out together
(with a purple on thrown in for
good measure, because purple is
my favorite color)

and I cried
