a lock and a key

by Emily Davidson

i'm thinking of how beautiful
he looks in candle light
and how the shadows make his lips pronounced
as he tell me that he
wishes he could stay through the morning

his smell
is somewhere between
his chest and mine
floating gently; simmering
on top of his skin
like cinnamon

our lips
like puzzle pieces
or
a lock and a key

(as different as we are, we fit each other)
