our passion floats lifeless, amniotic
until
a newborn stillbirth miraculously
resurrected just in time for the
second coming of the next big thing.

as the umbilical is disconnected
and we are left to breathe by our own devices,
this world is virginal and unscathed

dangerous but
more comfortable than
the state from which we've fled

and ever so cautiously,
we inhale.
