forgiveness season by Betania TeschNow
as the earth
under my
scratched, salted shoes
is suffocating
under the weight
of boots and slush
as the sparse, limp leaves
cannot muster
a half-hearted crackle,
I awaken from
the drug of winter,
the numb, dumb delusion
of being a lamb
both in and out
of your lion's den
and staying cool and dry.
But I open a crusted eye
on our mud-caked
water-weighted past
which must simply
evaporate over time
and gather above
into gentler rains. 02/25/2005 Author's Note: a spring poem, being it was the season in which I was undertaken by forgiveness.

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 02/09/14 at 05:01 PM I really enjoyed the language used here, alliterations, "numb, dumb delusion", "water-weighted past", and the marvelous resolution in that last stanza. Thank you. A fine POTD. |
