At the Opera (inspired by the movie)

by Mary Ellen Smith

Haunted memories
As the snow falls softly.
One red rose lies
There upon the stone.

Love lived
Love lost
Hearts entwined are aching.
One candle burning
He is left alone.

Hear the music
See the phantom moving
Unmasked he cries out
For the one he loves.

And like all stories
This one has an ending.
Two left mourning
Under the stars above.

She has left them
Together in their sadness
She, the beauty
That they loved so long.

Drawn to the one man
He waits there in the darkness.
Wedded to the other,
To him she did belong.

Mary Ellen, what a beautiful piece. I just watched that movie last week and was just in awe of it. You did it justice! :)

I just watched the movie last night :) I read this before and didn't get it cuz I hadn't seen the film, so I remedied that and now I love it! Great job M.E.
