Depending

by Maureen Glaude

Hollow shell
pulp scooped away
seeds dug out and scattered

but the exterior
still sports a color and shape
calls attention -
semblance of a history

a light put on
inside
may make a shadowy glow
upon the markings
of a face
funny, tragic or menacing

depending on
the carve

Strong reminders of The Mask here, and how the Hollow reflects both angelic personality and id. Powerful buildup also to those last two powerful lines.
