Waiting

by Maureen Glaude

red tulip in late April
silk petals still closed
demure sleeves
preserving warmth
nursing delicate promise

closed tulip in late April
like a face before a smile blooms

a green stemmed
virgin heart waiting
to open itself
to love

Great poem to read on a rainy April morning. I especially like this analogy: like a face before a smile blooms. :oD

Mo, you sure know how to take a flower and turn it into art. I'll never look at tulips the same way again.

I'm not generally enamoured of tulips - this, a sublimely natural exception to my synthetic rule.
