Beginnings

by Bradd Howard

the shameful glimmer of the misunderstood.
like David and Goliath
the small often do triumph.
I've considered anorexia
but realized that would be ineffectual.
like mathematics.
one plus one doesn't always equal togetherness.
I've compromised
substituted the cloud of happiness for just an overall atmosphere of o.k.
within the healthy, dynamic nature of insanity lies our dreams.
How gracious we are to glimpse them just once
even if we never see them again.
going back to the protozoac nature of our inner-selves we are reminded of beginnings
that everything must begin with something
and we are beginning with this...

Bradd, " ... one plus one doesn't always equal togetherness." Such a true line. I love the form of this poem, what it says and how you say it. Another favorite line " ... substituted the cloud of happiness for just an overall atmosphere of o.k." We do this all the time, don't we? What a shame. And the end all to beat all lines " ... going back to the protozoac nature of our inner-selves we are reminded of beginnings ... " I loved this poem from beginning to end. Thanks for the read. ~~ Kyle Anne
