you think i don't know you...

by Carolyn Coville

we laid entwined amongst white sheets and silky, thick blankets,
exhausted from a night of alcohol and laughs

'you have the same brown eyes that i do' you told me,
as the sun rose from the never ending ripples of crystal waves
i semi-smiled, and reminded you
how when we first met, you told me your eyes were gray
(but you wore brown contacts)

at breakfast those eyes grew cold;
during conversation they searched for faults, traits, truth
i was probably the only one who noticed,
and if you're as smart as you think you are
then you should have realized i was on to you

you wrapped myself around you,
my hand clutching the nervousness of your heart
we fell asleep in the tightest embrace, chest against chest,
the smell of your skin sweating into mine

you sighed several times as did i;
walls were never easy to break down

Good start to a series of poems me thinks. And holding that thought, as in the title, perhaps ... at the end of the last line.

"walls were never easy to break down" so relatable. i've been there, i've been there.

Truth that kinda sux narrated with such poetic elan. And the last line when joined to such a powerfully narrated stuff lashes strongly.
