that would be you.

by Andrew S Adams

once
i wrote something for someone;
though i never could quite
bring myself to bring her
what i had worked towards;
thinking
that she might get the impression
(albeit true)
that i liked her. maybe more.
(i'm the blushing type.)

this poem, was
trite and banal and completely
unoriginal drivel that,
against my better judgement
led me to employ words like
"like"
"beautiful"
"charming"
"talented"
"smart"

and further waste her precious
moments in time where
she could be thinking of
someone greater
something better
anything besides this
mess of words held before her.

i said as much. i don't have
much confidence when it comes
to matters like this,
and i'm not that good at explaining
myself, so
i write horrible poems about
other poems i've written-
poems
that don't actually exist;
just poems that reference themselves
in the passive tense
written for the girl that
i'm about to hand this to.
