Firmament

by Mary Ellen Smith

Behold the beckoning lights on high midst deep velvet black of sky.
Where twinkle they with secret’s kept, wishes wished and sometimes wept.
And how small the Earth yet lucky we amidst all the dark and debris
That our Maker set this green Earth of ours perfectly among the stars.

The sun, our warmth in day and night keeps us steady in its sight
And the moon so gently washes all, winter, spring, summer and fall.
This celestial stage of grand design drawn from God’s blueprints divine
Draw us to gaze toward the ascent and find Him in the firmament.
