An Ode to My Sister's Buns

by Mary Ellen Smith

Cucamonga is a far off land.
A city though, you understand.
Where lives a grandmother who takes great care
To make a statement with her hair.

You see her hair is oh so curly.
And she would get up very early
Because no ordinary do would do
Everyday she would shampoo.

She tried to tame the many swirls
On her head, the many curls
She tried to brush and comb and train
Her hair into a managed mane.

But her curls were just too thick
Had Mother Nature played a trick?
She thought as she looked into the mirror
To call perhaps a good sheep shearer.

Well that would be a drastic plan
But that is when the thought began
Out of that desperate reaction
To make her hair a great attraction.

She’d pin her hair atop her ears
As she had in younger years.
Two perfect buns and she could be a
Fifty year old Princess Leah.

She searched in drawers in cups and tins
And found some candies, toys and pins.
She pinned two buns of bundled hair
And tucked her findings into there.

So now when you see her walking bout
Don’t be shy, do give a shout
From her hair if you cajole
She’ll toss to you a tootsie roll!

Author's Note: My sister Sue is a professional clown. Her antics spill over into everyday life. She hides small toys in her buns for the grandkids. I just thought that deserved an ode. LOL.

This put a big smile on my face! Excellent piece Mary Ellen! (oh, by the way ~ when I was a child, my father was a clown(Shriner) ~ his little antic was a mini motorcycle with great, big bull horns on the front, he would ride around all silly like ~ he was an awesome clown, he called himself Bo-Diddy)

Your attention to detail is phenomenal, Mary Ellen. Like a dog looking for a place to lay, you spin a great hook, line, and sinker. Buns, hah! pe4ce...

With much good humor you do relate quite a tale of sister to date; With the kids she must surely rate!
