WHO I AM

by Shonda Creemer

My brother once told me
over Sunday dinner that
men don't want
fat Christian women.

(thanks Bub for pointing
out the obvious)

JUST TAKE ME FOR WHO I AM

I have been known to
call myself boring at
times, a bit of an
introvert it seems.

(Mr. A simply calls
that being different)

JUST TAKE ME FOR WHO I AM

I try and take myself out
of the world, as much as
the world can be taken
out of me.

(some would call that being
Miss Goody Goody ~ whatever)

JUST TAKE ME FOR WHO I AM

because who I am
no one else will ever be
and who I am is
nothing more than being me
so please, be gentle

AND TAKE ME FOR WHO I AM

03/08/2005

Author's Note: rejection has taken it's toll, won't someone please just take me for who I am?

...shon, shon...you out-did yourself on this one, dearie...and existentially mankind cries out for the same thing...you just speak OPENLY [wonderfully] to it...henry david thoreau says 'each person lives a life of quiet desperation!' and that's what your words speak loudly to...i loved all this...all.peace,chaz

...too, neil diamond in the seventies sang a lovely [meaningful, too] song called: I Am, I Said. said what your poem does...:)

Shon, I love this poem, because I'm there with you. I feel your pain. Wonderful poem and it's going on my favorites list. God loves us just the way we are - I always think on that. A bittersweet reminder of the world's reality.

i know how you feel, insecurity is my most disconcerting attribute. i suck. see, i just did it again. well, it's how i feel sometimes but sometimes i'm able to get out of it. sometimes i judge myself on little things, like my writing, and that tells me who i am separate of all my insecure feelings. from what i see, this poem does that for you. let how good this poem is bring you out of feeling unworthy, even though that may be fleeting, since we always fall back into feeling sad again. i really like, "i try and take myself out of the world, as much as the world can be taken out of me." just always remember your poetry, because that is you, and your poetry is awesome.

A question and statement I think we all strive for in our own way Shonda. Well stated!
