Brothers and sisters, and the Star of David. by Anne HoweThis life is but a melody
A phrase in time In counterpoint with others
In the harmony of life
Here a hymn, a psalm
A song of joy
An uttering from some holy book
The sage with knotted hair
Proclaims the joy which is beyond
To the God who obstacles will remove
And the Goddess fair whose flair
Is education
Through heady wisps of spice and silk
Our prayers and coconut proffer
The Alpha and the Omega
The beginning and the end
The star of David shines.
And in the rainy season men
Who seek enlightenment are found
In prayer and meditation, there
With shaven heads they bow
Together one world
One earth, its petals sweet
The smell of soil when rain is done
To nothing can compare
But let us still in meditation dwell
On all that peace and happiness can mean
And yes, praise and honour it, or who
Or what has brought us to this place
And when lifes done
Shall take us on from here unto another space.
This world is but a melody
A new phrase in the space of time
Let's learn to live in peace
And leave a better world behind
