Valentines Day

by Charles M Harrison

On this special day of the year
we endeavor to show to those near.
To express in some tangible way
the love we feel for them each day.
Some give gifts of candy and flowers
others give a few moments or hours.
We try to compress into one day
all the words love would have us say.
Love is an everlasting emotion
I wonder who came up with the notion.
To just hand out a card and some candy
it's simple, and clean, and oh so dandy.
People will know by how you live
of the love in your heart that you give.
You need not say even a word
for the strength of your love to be heard.
It will be plain in all that you do
for your actions will say I love you.
For if the love you have is the best
then it is the kind that is God blessed.
All we need do is look at this earth
to know love's value and it's worth.
It is with great love that God made
the trees for us to sit in the shade.
The sun to warm us and light each day
moonlight in the darkness to guide our way.
In all of the great vastness of space
he gave us this one special place.
Although we may never hear him say
you are my chosen and I love you today.
We can know by all that we see
the love he has for you and me.
He has shown us all the one true plan
to show his great love to all man.
Let his actions be your guide
to show the love you have inside.
It will be by the things that you do
that others will know his love through you.
On Valentines Day give out candy and such
send out your cards to stay in touch.
But on every day of the year
let actions show your love is there.
It may not be clear in the words you say
but they will know you loved them each day.

This is very fine - nice tight rhyming, fully developed, and an inspiring message. Thank you.
