requiem (denial).

by Andrew S Adams

i have a guitar, which gives me
the absolute right to speak of
my pained existance, every
detail of every love note from
relationships gone sour,
all the while strumming the two chords
i never learned to play-

and i reserve that right for the times
when i need to destroy this guitar
cheap piece of shit it is anyway-
i will pummel it against the speakers
shatter the wood into a thousand fragments
leaving it's tendons to drag about the floor
obscenely; someone aught to clean that up;

though i'm too busy writing the
requiem for the damn thing; i will share
every love note from our relationship,
and scream when i try to sing her name.
we always hurt the ones we love the most;
thank god i didn't love her too much.

Author's Note: i honestly don't know why i write anymore.

You do know why you write and you just proved it with this poem. Your talent is the reason I joined pathetic back in November. I found you on here and then spoke to you a little on IM's and then heard your music. I do not envy your talent because you deserve to possess it. The emotion yet lack of emotion in this is superb. Your soul is quite old and I am still amazed at your words when I realize your actual age. You are able to see what so many still search for. The colors of the world shine through these poems. Great things are bound to happen to you, as I am sure they already have. Please do not ever underestimate your poetic worth. You are a star that is able to reach the heavens.

I felt like you were standing right in front me when I read this poem, smashing your guitar about, screaming her name, and performing a beautiful heartfelt song. This is amazing.

"shatter the wood into a thousand fragments
leaving it's tendons to drag about the floor"

... etched in my mind, great stuff. :) If anything I hope us poets write for ourselves to find some internal resolve, if others happen to like what comes out then thats good too. And your writing holds the weight of many emotions, expresses vividly, so don't stop what your doing - we love you. :)
