They Smile

by Dana E Brossard

They smile and wave when we pass,
They shout and cheer when they see us,
And when we do stop they gather round.

'Mister, Mister, I luf you'
Said with big smiles and laughs,
And when we pass out candy they glow.

I smile and talk with them,
Though I do not know what they say,
I do know they are happy to see us.

It warms my heart to see the joy,
To see the happiness of these poor,
To give smiles to the Iraqi Children.

Author's Note: The format is not to my liking, but I think it convays what I want. It is the highlight of my days when we're out on convoys and I get the chance to see the Iraqi children smiling and happy, just because we're there.

and no matter what the liberal american and world media wants to say to us (mostly lies), they cannot touch this heartfelt account from a REAL soldier, with his life on the line, writing of GRATEFUL people... thank you for this... i wish we could plaster this on the front page of the LA and NY Times... real propaganda, not lies made up to feed a liberal elitist country of celebrities and narcissists... excellent piece, from someone who’s life is on the line everyday, not hidden behind a typewriter or camera... blessings to you from a proud american...

We can all only hope that what is being done is, and will, benefit all the people of Iraq, but especially the children, now and for years to come. Bravo to you and God bless!

You honor all of us at home with your gentle caring for and ambrace of the Iraqi people. It makes me proud to know that your heart is there for them. Take care and come home happy and safe. Nice sentiment in the poem BTW --bf
