Kate

by Mary Ellen Smith

twenty two years ago
it was you.

you
with those short bangs
and long brown hair.

big
brown eyes.

you
talking with your hands
so matter of fact
so sure.

dressing yourself
mismatched
red striped tights and pink dress.

and now
it is Kate.

princess shirt
and rainy day boots.

she is you
in miniature .

and me with this ache in my heart
from all this loveliness.

Truly a moving piece. Lots of nostalgia and love. :o)
