Wet Eyes & Lullabies

by Melissa Arel

Crying in the night, he called out my name
I rushed to his side and held my sweet babe
Whimpering and sniffling he held onto me
I knew there was no where I’d rather be
I stroked his back and kissed his wet eyes
Singing to him a calming lullaby
He fell asleep within my loving arms
And I fell in love with his ease and charm
Upon my cheek was his warm baby breath
As I held him tight, closer to my chest
I whispered “goodnight” and laid him down
Touched his straight soft hair of brown
And closed the door while I said a prayer
Knowing God’s angels were already there

Author's Note: True story.. happened last night.. he musta had a bad dream or something :( I remembered when he was sleeping on me and I felt his baby breath on my cheek I was like "I'm gonna write about this very moment" and I did. :)

so beautiful and calming. you are a wonderful mother. the only thing you could add is the exact song you sang to him. i figure it's one of your favorites like ja rule. ;)

This is so sweet...so loving...and yes, God's angels were there.

very mellow and beautifully crafted for something you "dashed off..." i guess it's true: the very best and the most loving comes straight from the heart

A very tender, loving and touching account of your growing relationship. Looks like the child will provide you with many moments that you'll be able to write about for years to come. Looking forward to reading them. Thanks for sharing them with us!
