A Self Portrait in Sound

by Amanda J Cobb

I am a symphony,
a harmonic cacophony -

the sound of laughter
of pages rustling, turning
of a camera shutter
of typing keys

the sound of a pen whirring over the lines
a piano concerto
an audience's applause
a curtain falling

the sound of a tear slipping down a cheek
of the muscles stretching into a smile

the sound of the ocean

the sound of the wind

the sound of flight

the sound of miles passing as the tires turn
a door opening
chocolates unwrapped
a cat purring

the sound of differences accepted
of things unspoken
my sisters' joys
my mother's sighs -

I am every note.

Author's Note: A self portrait in words, not charcoal. Written for a booklet I have to do for my graphic design class.

...and aren't we all bittersweet songs that are made up of notes we find and have been given us. Great concept expertly executed. Thanks for sharing.

Very refreshing and highly unique.Visualising sounds and making sound visual and relating them to things is a highly creative stuff.Kudos to you.I like imaginations which are highly creative and this certainly is one of my fav poems here.
