In My Own Defence I Blame My Hotel

by Anne Engelen

I had it all planned

Check-out at 5.00 AM

Take you to work by 5.30

Drive to the airport

Return rental car

Check-in bags

Wait for 8.40

Start journey homeward bound

My hotel thought differently

No check-outs before 6.00 AM

Back in the room

I lay down

Caught your scent from

The pillow you’d slept on

Stole the pillow case with

Your scent and our memories

So earthy and yet ethereal, Anne. I can very much identify with this poem.

What a romantic poem! Sometimes unplanned things turn out well. Have you washed the pillow case yet? Beautiful.

There isn't one court in the land that would find you guilty in the case of the missing ambrosial pillow case. Your lovelorn poem has set a precedence for lawmakers and poets alike, and your poetic license is only exceeded by those charming flared nostrils and that euphoric grin on your longingly lovely face. Good stuff, Anne. Pe4ce...

don't tell anyone that this avowed cynic said this but...so sweet! Happy for the both of you!!! :)

Nothing like the scent of your lover and being forced to sleep in late.

Without that extra time you wouldn't have gotten the pillow case...sweet

Oh Anne! I know this longing. This is a wrenching display of that. A new favorite of mine.

The pillow case thief... the poem could be the start of a great romance! Excellent read. Thanks for sharing.

Brings back strange, but nice memories. I was a pillow thief too! :-) Nice write- made me smile!
