Gentleness Not Guaranteed by Maureen Glaudewrite serenely
of nature
not the human kind
create your poems
haiku, tanka
ghazals, haibun, renga
to celebrate wind, tree, snow
rock, waterfall, and creature
shaped true
for your readers eyes
gentle and wild in her freedom
delicate whispers
inoffensive to their ears
build your home studio on her shoreline
paint the scenes
portray the echoes
brush their noses with reminscence
worship the aesthetic delights
the mystery and detachment
of nature
but be ready
even she
may lash out
rebel in cruelty unpredicted
elements broiled in turncoat landscape
upheaving her potent disgust
audible across all nations
tangible toll immeasurable
in the revolt against mankind
what capture of her
settles on your page

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 12/30/04 at 01:22 PM For the past few days I have been trying to find the words to describe my own feelings, especially after watching CNN's coverage last night for a couple of hours, then CBC's The National. I think you hit the nail on the head here, and if I were to write a poem, this is the way I'd want to describe it as well. |

Posted by Michelle Angelini on 12/31/04 at 08:40 PM Maureen, what a great expression of Nature's unpredictability. She can be kind and gentle, but also furious and destructive. Excellent read! |
