No Snow

by Mary Ellen Smith

No mittened hands, no scarf to wear
No hat upon my crown.
No fluffy snow, no drifts no flurries
No wool, no fleece, no down.

No snowman greeter, no sleigh to ride
No ice on which to skate.
No snow angels, no snowball fighting
No snow days on which to wait.

No wintry scenes, no bundled up carolers,
No wassailing around.
No ice sculptures in the park,
No snowy fun here to be found.

OH! But wait!

No ice to scrape, no frozen pipes
No sidewalks high with snow.
No treacherous roads, no slip, no slide
No temperatures below.

No frozen hands, no chapped up lips
No frost to bite my toes.
No shivers, no trembling, no shaking
No icicles on my nose.

ItÂ’s true it does stay warmer
Here outside L.A.
But I would love to trade someone
For just one snowy day.

I'd be glad for the trade. One snowy day to you and one CA "winter" day for MD! You catch in memorable lines the bone chill of winter--its pros and its cons.

Aww, I really like this, Mary. Although there's no snow and ice here yet, I'll trade ya when it comes. :) ~~ Kyle Anne

I really ejoyed this poem Mary Ellen. We've already got our first snow this year and I can't wait for more.
