Every Storm by Ava BluWith each flash of lightning
A memory haunts her still
She is forced to remember his face
And she is unable to forgive
Praying to forget
With each sound of thunder
She hears him coaxing her
Making her believe this is what she deserves
With each drop of rain
She feels the rotten saliva from his kiss
She feels his hands upon her
With his dirtiness wrapped around her
With each breeze of wind
She feels her innocence being blown away
She feels his voice in her ear
Telling her this is "our little secret"
She cannot believe that ten could be such an ugly number
With every flash of lightning
She sees a scared little girl
Who was broken by a man she didn't know
With every sound of thunder
She hears herself crying out
To her father
Who somehow seemed not to hear
With every drop of rain
She feels tears of neglect
From a father that never cared
With every breeze of wind
That haunting memory is blown into her
And she cannot get rid of it
And with every storm
She turns back into ten
And is forced to relive all she longs to forget
And she realizes, forgiveness will never
Be her strong point. 12/01/2004 Posted on 12/01/2004 Copyright © 2025 Ava Blu

| Posted by Andrew S Adams on 12/09/04 at 02:09 AM i really like the storm imagery you've got going here, it is used to a tense effect that i enjoy reading when done well, which you do superbly. the last stanza is a perfect ending for this poem- great images throughout. peace:a |
