How can I compete?

by Amy Niggel

How can I compete with such a seductress?
I don't glow the same way,
I can't show you the world.
I cannot create your fantasies
show them to you live and in color.
I will never be able to remember that much.
My body does not respond to you every touch
cannot fulfill your every desire.
How can I compete with your first love?
The one you will always return to?
When you lie in my arms,
I know where your mind is,
and it is not with me.
I can never compete with this temptress
for I am only flesh and blood,
I will never live up to your computer.

You had me on this one, Amy. The "seductress" you referred to throughout the poem certainly turned out to be a surprise with your last line. Oh, to be compared to the computer. No, who can ever live up to that? Super poem. ~~ Kyle Anne

This is a well-crafted piece about a mis-guided youth and a most unfortunate dilemma. My guess is he'll come around if you ignore his joystick a week or two. Pe4ce...
