Dressed Up the Same

by Maureen Glaude

in our identical blue paper costumes
the morning after Hallowe’en
four of us seated in the waiting room
“bosom sisters” who’ve never met
chatting and laughing over
which of us have our gowns
on backwards, two opening at the back
two at the front
one lady wondering why she wasn’t told
to stretch her belt, to make it fit

waiting for our mammograms
likely each woman wondering
underneath the smiles
if she’ll be laughing
when the results come in

... wonderful imagery, halloween-costumes-non-reality (of costuming) YET, y'all are dressed in "blues" and as you say, ...hopefully y'all will not get "the blues" with the results ... wonderfully touching work. chaz

Great addition to your C series Mo. The title works fine for me, and nicely introduces the piece.

Pancake days for a woman are not fun no matter the dress. Good poem of trying times Mo....Charlie
