Costumed Love Part II by Maureen Glaudethe flamenco tune's
flamboyant sound retired
the young man closed up again
your party ended
woman-girl-Heidi gone
my film of transparent
black, my lace
across your haycurls
a mockery
he was blind
you and I both know
for what innocence did you wear
out on that barstool, not home kitchen?
Streams of cigarette smoke
tainting my fabric
toughening us up.
You - Heidi
a laugh!
He paints you far too gloriously afield
I saw the darknesses
of both of you
his smudging your eyeliner with
the press of his lash-licking kiss
reeked to me
olive girl, beneath my guise
whose story would rape the forget-me-nots
disgracing the day of Hallow's Eve
no fine linen shield can be yours

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 10/26/04 at 03:50 AM Evocative and imaginative are the first two words that spring to mind upon reading this. It unfolds as if written by someone else, but then you've proven yourself to be quite the poetic chameleon, and that's a good thing. Those poetry classes are really paying off. |
