Toyotamoto

by Chris Sorrenti

hopped into the tiny foreign sedan
with Cindy a.k.a. Speedy Gonzalez
that crazy girlfriend of mine
out for a relaxing Sunday jaunt
OH OH - don’t forget those shoulder checks!

she doesn’t think I love her
at least when she’s behind the wheel
sixty miles an hour through a string of yellow lights
amazing what one can do with a little 2.2
she says laughing
my hands glued to the dashboard

clutch in - gas out
as she floors the brake
almost putting me through the windshield
phewww - safe in the driveway again
but wait till she lets me drive!

well, sometimes you're allowed to go through yellow, but not speeding! And now you could get your photo taken going through reds! This was fun, and unnerving for the passenger, obviously, until his turn. Good poem.

Yes, one feels safe with brake under one's foot. How about the other occupying the adjacent passenger seat? Well, the only psychological remedy ( and mind it, tried and tested)is to INTEND PARADOXICALLY, that is, to imagine all kind of accident situations in a humorous way. haahah The sarcastic expression at the end enlivens this piece.

nothing quite like blazin' through those yellows, or coming to that screeching stop... especially when it's your turn.

I have been known to put finger dents in a padded dash and deep hollows in a floor board when riding as a passenger. Fun poem Chris...Charlie

Brings to mind many times sitting with some or another erratic driver, clutching the dash and putting my foot on an imaginary brake that I so strongly wished was there on my side of the car. Like how you turn it at the end - what goes around, comes around and paybacks are a... well, great job with this. Thanks for the ride!

Makes me long for the days when I was allowed to drive. Thanks for the ride Chris- very enjoyable, if not a little scary!
