guts by Charlie Morgan
guts
you got 'em doncha boy?
kahonies, balls, ooomph!
you know, guts, wherewithal.
you got all that, doncha gal?
nerve, chutzpah, feme serieuse!
you know, you're a woman who knows.
how old're you, twenty going on sixteen?
everybody's been twenty before
so you better have all that
or
you'd better act like you do.
the world is hungry,
and you'll make a good meal.

Posted by Glenn Currier on 03/31/05 at 06:32 AM Ha! I can hear you carrying on. I can see the intensity in your eyes. Oh how you trap the ironic in the lair of your verse. |
Posted by JJ Johnson on 09/27/05 at 04:32 PM Quite a bold poem with a tasty ending. Glad I'm not going to be a meal for anyone. I wonder if these are real people you know, do they know you know? JJ |
Posted by Lauren Singer on 01/01/06 at 09:29 PM i think i might be 20 going on 16. thought this was great, edgy, and gave a little of that "pow! pow!" feeling i'm so fond of in your poetry! |
