Induced

by Quinlan L Gibson

Sleep is sweet, so I compete and lose the game.
My mind is strong, but takes too long
to just turn off my brain; stay sane.
Where is the switch? I toss and turn
and this new yearning drives me mad.
I need to rest; is this a test?
Regain the best of nights gone bad?
The days are slurred and though I've heard
this is soon to pass,
flip and flop from too much thought
and here I am, alas.
There is the dream, the need to gleam in morning light.
Get some help and nights will melt from 2 pink pills
and a large glass, of slumber.

Author's Note: The price of this new lifestyle has been sleep. I can't fall asleep, nor stay asleep for long. A month of this and I've been suggested Benadryll.. God bless Benadryll.

Yes! Benedryl the wonderful slumber pills. Glad I'm not the only one. Great read.

Oh yes, I can relate to this. I have many sleepless nights, mostly because I believe I must figure out all the world's problems beforehand. What a nonsensical dilemma I put upon myself :) Great read.

Oh yes, insomnia is such a pain! Really can be such a detrament to life. Great rhyme and flow with this one :-)

Or you could try some paradoxical intention....that is to say, INTEND on NOT sleeping...tell yourself there is NO way you're sleeping tonight no matter what and work hard to do so! See what happens ;-)

i wonder who can't relate to these feelings? benadryl is my cure-all, a medic's dream... pills are ok, shots are better ;)

As a "so-called specialist" in the field of sleep disorders, I have to caution you on the use of Benadryl. Taken too regularly, it can & will lose it's effect. Be careful with OTC meds, okay? Short term is okay, long term....see a doctor. A specialist, not generalized.
*oh dear* I sound like such a fuddy dud! LOL
The poem, I think, did an excellent job describing insomnia, the wretched thief!! The rhythm reminds me of the frustration as you watch the minutes tick away. Well done. :)
