a high school chronology of communism.

by Andrew S Adams

when thinking about neruda,
i think of stalin.
what i have learned, is that

In history, Junior year,
the evil, atheist communist was
oblivious to god's power. we are one nation under
god, damn it.
we are above those evil,
nutjob radicals, those
dirty fucking commies.

and then, my genesis.

In writing, Senior Year,
the free-thinking communist was
unbound by religion.they are one nation under
inspiration, damn it.
We are above those sheep,
afraid of change, those
sad, fearful, god-chained capitalists.

this, as i quietly dissect, leads the question:

am i a politician, or am i a writer?

You would love Nietzsche if you haven't already read him. He speaks a great deal about motivation and rationales, covering what you discussed here. I think we can be a lot things good and bad - a writer, a politician - just as long as we don't let the ideas firewall us in. And I think its natural to pick up one idea and run with it - it may serve you well for a long time, until your needs change and your scopes widen. It doesn’t mean that idea leaves you, its still one of the many filters language and concepts will create... these institutions of the mind. I guess the key is in the manner of how, when, and why you apply them. Satisfaction unfortunately is momentary like desert rains... :)
