Images of war 03 - Saturday Morning

by Paganini Jones

War at a distance 3 - Saturday Morning

Blue sky and the gentle Spring sun
Draw walkers out to the hills,
To rediscover old routes
And search new byways;
Calls golfers to the course;
Lures fishermen to river and lake.

Later we go shopping, buy bread
liver pate and cheese,
and a bottle of French wine
to share with friends.
We chat, and plan
what to wear, where to go

Later perhaps we will
turn on the television
flick from channel to channel
to see the latest news,
relaxing to half listened stories,
thankful for a moment of peace

Author's Note:
I once heard the phrase, "News as entertaiment". For a time we had "War as entertainment" too. I pray we have learned, and moved on...

Great reminder of how life goes on as best as possible despite the fact that one's soldiers or allies are fighting a bitter struggle what at times seems a world away if not for the reality check of daily news...often graphic in its depiction. Pass the wine and baggots please.

how small and insignificant some of life's everyday chores are in comparison... amazing write... one that hits home with me
