First Love Lost

by Thomas K. Hunt

Adolescent laughter shared
Young hearts burn with love
Believing in forever
Wishing on gems above

Dreaming hopes of yearning wants
Hunger deep within
Heart pounding moments
Thought to never end

Early hearts delicate, fragile
Undeveloped, easily torn
Reality of what was then
Now fantasies forever more

Though separation does exist
Hurt comes pouring in
Misunderstandings fall in place
Young minds begin to spin

Stepping into journey
Loving breath exhaled
Lost forever the innocence
Another young love that failed

Time has stolen your voice from my ears
Though your face is etched behind my eyes
While your silence has plagued me all these years
My withering heart slowly died

Beautifully sad and moving in its accurate and honest capture, but like all things in life, love is a learning process, and thankfully that first lost love provides a foundation for better things ahead. Superbly expressed Thomas.
