The Hollow Orchid

by Trisha De Gracia

I can see her there
in a gown of white and ivory
layers of silk and and peach fuzz velvet
swimming at her feet in pools
smiling SweetSerene and singing
songs that we've all heard before.

A queen
of utmost beauty
utmost steadfastness
and utmost virtue
gone quite utterly senile
years before she's even prime.

There stands her heirs and heiresses
all due to hum in tune with her
and cast her fatal shadow
on their paths.

There stands her bright domain
while she in turn
in time
falls down upon her knees.

Evocative read....text superbly reflective of its title. Strong reminder that beauty can be such a shallow thing.
