Divine Humor by Max BouilletOne day God and I were sipping
a cold beer on my double helix,
when he suddenly broke out in laughter.
Curious, I inquired about the sudden outburst
only to be informed that I wouldnt appreciate the joke.
Distracted by reality, I drifted back into work.
The slow tedium of office politics
that I once watched so acutely,
now drones incessantly in the background.
I have become a victim of my own success.
(The devil hides behind the water cooler
misplacing the cups and whispering
that I could do better but I know I cant.)
Choking aspirin down a dry throat,
I realize what the Old Man was laughing at...
and He was right.
I didnt appreciate the joke. 09/12/2004 Author's Note: HA Ha ha hA. Thanks, Rach! That was a good point. :)

Posted by Rachelle Howe on 09/12/04 at 06:10 PM *cracks up.* And neither do I. But I think I get it. Oh, you used "hide/hiding" in the same stanza, which was kinda distracting. but otherwise: MAXIMUS. you have such a way with slapping your reader in the face with quaint truth. nice. |

PS- you should learn to clean behind that water cooler! |
Posted by Alex Smyth on 09/14/04 at 03:30 AM So THAT'S where the bugger hangs out. I wonder in our office is it the cabinet where there are never coffee cups when you want one. He's a lousy comedian, but this is a truly wonderful write. |

Posted by JD Clay on 01/17/05 at 09:02 PM Even though there are two sides to every story, He always gets the last laugh, but I'm still chuckling over your wry sardonics. Good stuff, Max.
