Run Too Fast

by James Zealy

Run Run too fast,
Disconnect the heart from the past,
Compete, rush to meet goals,
Delay the creative yearnings of the soul,

Home in a suitcase,
The world is an acquaintance,
Light the fire of learning,
Create a fire burning,

Run Run too fast,
The spirit that drives is looking at the past,
Time to reflect on the creative flow,
The urge triggered by a friends prose,

Gifts remembered thrive again,
Pen to paper driving the words,
Can’t wait to feel the urge,
Streams of consciousness structuring the verse,

Filling a gap left unfilled,
Allowing the heart to feel,
Unafraid of the raging inferno,
Untapped and ready to blaze,

Run Run too fast,
Allowing the heart to sing,
Penned in a lyrical string,
Happy at last to reconnect with the past.

Author's Note: Written about a friend that appeared to be so caught up in her career, that she never took time for herself. After we reconnected after about 10 years lapsed, we found a common groung in writting. I let her see some of the things I had written, and she began to write again herself.

Nice reminder that there's more to life than just making money; friendship, art, and the sharing of both.
