baby smile

by Mary Ellen Smith

the smile of a baby
that crooked first sweet grin.
‘tis then you really find out just
how much love you’ve fallen in.

that sparkle in their little eyes
when they answer to your cooing,
thru all the generations past,
a grandparent’s undoing.

those tiny hands
and wee bit toes,
chubby cheeks
and button nose.

she must be God’s creation!
for how else could it be?
that so much love is wrapped up
in diapers just for me?

Cuddly, warm, loving! Ahhh those wonderful grandbabies! You sweetly and tenderly express the joy of a doting grandparent.
