The Night Fell Silent

by Melissa Arel

I saw you collapsed, crying in the dark
Two eyes peering through the familiar darkness
Swollen blood-red from an overflow of tears
Tissues surrounding your fragile form
Like clouds of cotton

An angel lost amidst a fury of emotion

I could do nothing to console
the penetrating sadness leaking from your pores
So I quietly slipped away
Leaving you there to battle your demons
While the night fell silent
The trembling moon tenderly wept with you

more than capturing the feeling of helplessness that hits when pain of immeasurable grief hits a friend you cannot console. Knowing the story behind it makes it all the more poignant Mel

This just cries with such deep feeling and evokes much the same, creating empathy with the subject and with the helplessness of the author. Powerful stuff!
