tattered and broken

by Melissa Arel

you tear me apart
like meat thrown to the dogs
your words pierce me
like a knife to the liver
draining me of blood and water

you leave me hurt, maimed
these scars you gave will never heal
for i'm shredded to pieces
my heart is tattered and broken

.. and then you say you love me..

love? i do not know the word
you've taken all i have
and left me no remains
nothing but tears, bitter tears

Author's Note: Not the best I know, but it was written when I was very hurt and so the feelings are raw and unrehearsed.

as are the best poems, wrung from our immediate, most wrenching feelings..nothing wrong with rawness when it reflects the heart so keenly!
