Knowing What I’m Looking For

by Maureen Glaude

looking to the question
of the one sure soul
I can count on to remain
beside me in life, to give
the company, empathy and understanding
I need
the listener who holds the answers
to all that I might ask
to whom I can be
fully and justifiably committed
would leave me
still struggling in a
void impossible for he or she
to satisfy

unless the hands
reached for, voice to heed
friend to walk with
designer of shared paths
come in the form of
The Lord or The Lady
above all.

I know He or She is the source
of all my answers

Interesting, I think the Bible uses the male gender. Christ, on earth, took the form of a man. God is not gender related. God is Spirit! He or She as definition does not apply. That is what I think. Provocative poem. Expressive devotion.

I see this piece in its simple expression as having universal appeal in that it reflects what we all (he and she) seek in our own individual ways from a higher power, regardless it being a him or her.

Beautiful Maureen. Puts out the question of gender, but leaves the choice to individual beliefs, while the narrator reassures the "audience" that a supreme being is (there).

To me this is a Love poem, and as beautiful as it's auther... and inspiration.
