Liar by Bet Yeldem
Dont you know I would shed myself for you
Convert these eyes to violet gray like the color of a storm
Disguise my heart with a stronger mask and colder blood
Id slough this skin and peel away the doubt that covers me
Until all thats left is the sense of your calloused hand in mine
Id no longer wear this hat my sentimental grandpa gave me
And Id hide my intelligence and insight with a vacant smile
Id trade my mothers pearls for some stainless steel chains
Wrap myself in black and blue tattoos and billowing smoke
Scream vulgarities in a tantrum that will rattle the walls
See how this works youve already made me a liar

This is poetry, I'm telling you, this is poetry. So many things about this piece reach out & grab me. So glad to decided to move it over. I'm certain I won't be the only one. :) |
