Mother's Quest (Repost

by Kate Demeree

What do you see, she asked in the night
Whispers soft in the palest light
And as she turned her eyes to me
A small teardrop came to be
Not a star to give us hope
I prayed dear god, please help her cope

What do you know, came the quivering voice
Heart in my throat I have the choice
To give to her the basest lie
Or hold her close and watch her cry
Cold is the wind that chills my blood
With trembling lips her eyes flood

Standing in the pouring rain
With sightless eyes she asks again
Now the coward will be me
Pretending that I can not see
The name etched there upon the stone
Or the fact he died alone

I say we will return someday
Before the sun has gone away
Take her arm walk down the hill
Trying hard my tears to still
Lying there beneath the stone
The only love I'd ever known

Sad, but a reality, certain despite all the uncertainties. The only truth we all refuse to become one with.

Yes, truly sad; the rhyming aspect of this piece adding extra chill to these bones. Can't recall having read this one before Kate. Glad I finally got to it, even in repost.

so poignant and heartwrenching, and beautifully portrayed, Kate, our Kate!

This is so sad and powerful. The words are extremely well chosen and the images drench the reader with an emotional verse that wrenches the heart. Great read.
