Acknowledging Gravity For The Enemy He Is

by Amy Wustrin

Fight or flight or fall
Or smoke from a brand new
Glass bowl
Till the whole room fills
With exhaled self-medication
And I can't even see my own
Reflection through the haze

I can make it all go away
With a puff and a prayer

I don't have to take the same path
Over and over again

But gravity's an unseen enemy
A sneaky son of a bitch
And a heartless bastard to boot

If I resist the fall
He'll only push me down
