by Lindsay Sanders

you use simple figures matched
by complex calculations to attempt
to understand why you can’t make it
through a day without shedding a
tear & then you solve to find at what
angle the razor against your skin
will inflict the most
pain.

for some reason the explicit formula
is not as explicit as you would like &
it doesn’t help as you continue to debate
the axioms in your life. yet you keep scribbling
away in hopes that the answer the variable
hides will hold the solution to your
problems.

so you meditate & concentrate
on the numbers in your head,
hoping that by calculating the zeros
on the graph you will begin to
comprehend the bottom of the
parabola.

if only life was a simple as
the pythagorean theorem
{seems to be.}

Author's Note: i hate loathe math. but i wrote a poem about it anyway.

looking back, i'm pretty sure that part of the reason i failed math in high school was because i'd write poetry in class instead of taking notes...

As someone who also loathes math, I found this piece quite entertaining. Nice work!

as a math geek, i loved this. even though it was written by a math-hater. haha. :) that last verse was perfect. it summed up everything so wonderfully.

math is everywhere...even in nightmares and sweet dreams...you must find a way to fall in love with these everywhere things. crafty write here though for sure!...it takes a real talent to write on something so lifeless and give it its own world and personality. marvelous linds!.
