Alchemy by Leslie Ann EisenbergFrom wombhands sprang
the oneness of two lovers
golden skin grown into light
Feeding each other
feeding off each other
arms and legs and feet intertwined
spoons in innocent slumber
Original models for the
sapling forest that one day
would bend and fall
He with the sidelong glance
clutching a sore chest,
she upturned, beseeching the wind
to fill her hollows
Unspooled by a snake
they grew separate limbs and
walked astride the wandering path
without touching
Generation after generation
breathe this same longing
but like the tang of last nights dream
they taste
but cannot remember
The clock is drawn and quartered
Air
Earth
Fire
Water
The journey split us into solitaire
searching, always searching
but missing the point
Love is the way to sew
the earth back together
Unfreeze this wheel
Banish the dark
Harmonic heartbeats
call us home to
be bound back
into one

Posted by Rula Shin on 07/15/04 at 03:37 PM "but like the tang of last nights dream they taste but cannot remember...Love is the way to sew the earth back together" - this poem is simply beautiful, and for me, especially these lines. I am amazed by your ability to breathe life into this magnificent union of souls as none other I've seen in a while, "Feeding each other feeding off each other...Original models for the sapling forest that one day would bend and fall" - yes! The dual promise of life and death thwarted by the lovers' eternal dream! And how in becoming ONE together they live a thousand lives and a thousand deaths in just one moment of true PRESENCE, transcending the destination by embracing "The journey" though it "split[s} us into solitaire...always searching
but missing the point" - the point is HERE and NOW and in the "Harmonic heartbeats" that "call us home to be bound back into one" - I see this as a beautiful and meaningful love story Leslie. For it is only in our true 'coming home to love that we mere humans can for ourselves draw "The clock" and "quarters..." defying nature as only we see fit. This is a story of REAL triumph. That's what I saw. I thoroughly enjoyed this piece :-)

the earth back together'.

Posted by Max Bouillet on 08/18/04 at 11:28 AM Tremendous undertaking. The mix of the personal relationship and its effects on nature are quite profound. An exquistite verse. You may want to insert a link to the picture in the author's note. I don't know how to do it, but others on the site have done it. Great read. |
