Low Flyer

by James Zealy

Winsome wisps of essence form
A translucent image
Painted on a summer sky
Waiting for a random sortie
Flying low and gracefull
Across the quiet waters
Hunting for a place to rest
To watch the ever present
Plethora of life
And sate the ongoing desire
To Ravenously devour its watery cuisine

Dreaming wistfully of the perfect place
As the quest for more
Drives the wanton need
To take the flesh and consume it whole
Flush with passionate hunger
Lest the slimy prey escapes
And forces the restless predator
To find another adventure.

Author's Note: The specific description is of a Blue Heron flying low over the water at High Rock Lake, in Davidson County NC. I think though that many of use have met "Low Flyers" that catch us unaware and leave.

Oh, James. This one is RICH with all sorts of imagery and wonderful descriptives. I think I'm going to have to mull it over a few times to get the depth of it. NICE!!!!!

I like this poem very much. It's about one of my favorite topics - nature, and the images are wonderful! I'm just not sure what a sorty is, but from the context, I gather it's a diving bird or something like that. Good work!

The imagery is good detailing the seen and the unseen. The unseen are corners normally unseen.

Very nice poem indeed! James I think the commas after every line are a distraction and unnecessary. :) Otherwise, well done. m

We've got a small flock that live in some large pine trees just down the street. We enjoy watching their comings and goings, and they are indeed quiet but for the odd squawk. I think you've caught their spirit here.
