in the wilderness

by Mary Ellen Smith

in the wilderness
day breaks golden, sudden.
morning reaches out,
touching worshiping limbs
leafed in velvet green
things unseen.
beneath the canopy.

in the wilderness
sunshine leaps into every shadow.
one moment of luminous rapture,
captured
in the rising good morning of nature's song.

in the wilderness
sunrise finds a peaceful place.
no smaller
than when God completed the seventh day.
His work is not diminished.
it is finished.
yet, every day a new creation,

in the wilderness.

Reminds me of my childhood- I used to play in the woods behind my parents' house when I was younger.. :) This poem makes those memories even sweeter!
